What people say about the Shakti Mat:

HOW TO USE THE SHAKTI MAT
Place your Shakti Mat on the bed or on a soft surface. Ideally use a neck pillow or a rolled up towel underneath the mat to support your neck. Lie in a comfortable position so that your skin rests in contact with the points. Relax and breathe deeply. If you are sensitive to pain you may like to start out with a thin cloth between yourself and the mat. This will however lessen the effect of the treatment. Initially 10-15 minutes spent on the mat may be enough, but you may gradually increase your sessions to 20-40 minutes. It is not dangerous to spend more time on the mat, or to fall asleep on the mat. Use it when you have time and feel the urge, every day if possible.

Rest and relaxation or gentle activity is recommended after the session, so as not to disrupt the released energy. The Shakti Mat is very efficient as a rehabilitation tool or after exercise, because it increases blood flow and shortens recovery time. It also helps exercise-related aches and pains.
Use the Shakti Mat to renew your energy and recuperate for example at a short break at work. You will soon find yourself less stressed out and more efficient at carrying out your tasks.
We recommend daily use of the Shakti Mat for optimum results. As is the case in any other form of therapy or exercise, regularity is the key to success. With regular use the deeply held stress and tensions are released and you will experience a permanent feeling of being deeply relaxed, at ease and an overall feeling of happiness in your life.
The Shakti Mat will release substances in the blood that make us feel happy, relaxed and full of energy. Regular use will give you a higher level and constant flow of the happiness hormone Oxytocin.
Specific treatments
The Shakti Mat can be used pretty much all over the body. From the spine the nerves reach all parts of the body, which means that the treatment on the back will affect the whole body. Listed are descriptions on treatment for specific "problem" areas of the body. We have modelled the suggested treatments using a pair of thin cotton trousers in order to not offend and to preserve modesty.

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
When required you may hand-wash your Shakti Mat with some detergent in lukewarm water. Rinse thoroughly and hang dry.
Avoid washing machines and tumble dryers as it will damage the points.
Using the Shakti Mat on your travels
Take your Shakti Mat with you when travelling, to save space and keep the weight down you may remove and leave the styrofoam at home. If you use the Shakti Mat in bed you don’t need the styrofoam mattress anyway, as it will be soft enough with the bed’s own mattress – which will shape itself to your body.

THE SHAKTI MAT SYMBOLS
The Geometry

The 6000 points are placed in a geometric pattern called a Yantra (in Sanskrit).
The geometry of the yantra stimulates the acupressure points of the body like a whirlpool. The flow of Chi (prana/life-force energy) increases between the points, which in turn heals and balances and supplies the weaker parts of our body with energy.
Each plastic disc has 27 points and a hollow middle.
The Colours
Orange
The orange colours gives energy, satisfaction and warmth.
It is the colour of our sexual chakra, Svadistana and stimulates imbalances in this chakra.
The orange colour is commonly used by yogis due to its positive effect on the consciousness, as it yields an open and more accepting mind.
Green
The colour green gives calm and harmony. It is a healing colour. It is also a colour full of life, as you can see when you look around in any landscape. Green is the colour of the heart chakra, Anahata. It yields balance to body and soul.
The Shree Yantra

The back of the Shakti Mat has been decorated with the beautiful power symbol called the Shree Yantra. It is in the yoga tradition considered the most complete geometric shape. It is considered to be 70 times more powerful than the shape of the pyramid. Both halves of the brain are stimulated and a deep state of meditation can be reached.
According to Vastu, which is the origin of Feng Shui, the Shree Yantra is the best tool to create balance in the home. For best results hang your Shree Yantra in the northeastern corner of the home. It will increase prosperity, create harmony and protect against accidents.
Shree Yantra meditation
Place the yantra with the centre at eye level. Sit comfortably and relaxed with a straight back. Keep the yantra at a 1-1,5 metre distance. Focus on the triangles in the middle without leaving any space for the thought process. Try to achieve a feeling of entering the yantra. Forget yourself and be absorbed by the empty space created in your mind by the yantra. Meditate for 20-40 minutes. Shree yantra is a portal to pure consciousness.
It opens up for a state of inner bliss that is everyone's birthright. Allow it to open the gates to lasting happiness for you.
Daily meditation is recommended to attain a deeper state of being and completeness.

"May you be happy by using this wonderful tool designed to reach a more complete existence."

Q & A
Is it painful to use the Shaktimat?
During first few minutes it's common to feel a pricking warm sensation on the areas being treated. Very soon the blood flow will increase. Tensions will dissolve and with them the pricking sensation. All pain or discomfort is quickly replaced by a pleasant feeling of relaxation, like after a night of deep sleep.
How can the bed of nails give relaxation?
The 6000 points stimulate the body's tactile corpuscles. The impulses are sent via the bone marrow up to the brain where endorphins are released together with different signal substances and hormones. This allows the muscles and the nervous system to relax. The blood flow increases the breathability of the cells, the platelets remove waste and the oxygen intake increases. The muscular tensions are released and the blood-pressure-level sinks.
For how long and how often can I treat myself?
We suggest that you start with 15 minutes. When more accustomed to the Shaktimat 20-40 minutes per sessionis standard. However, it is not dangerous to exceed the time limit. Many people fall asleep on the mat and that is perfectly safe. We recommend regular, if possible daily use.
How is the body affected by the Shaktimat?
Through research at Russian hospitals the following has been found:
Decrease in pain
Dissolving stress
Lowers blood pressure

Can the Shaktimat be washed?
Yes, when needed you can hand wash the mat using detergent in lukewarm water. Allow to hang and drip dry. Avoid washing machines and tumble dryers as the plastic points may get damaged.
Is the Shaktimat only to be used on the back?
Nerves branch out from the back to the rest of the body, which means that a back treatment effects the whole body. However, the mat can be used on specific ‘problem areas’ of the body.

THE HISTORY OF THE SHAKTI MAT
Origin
The bed of nails is an ancient tool with its roots in Indian mysticism. With its origin, dating back thousands of years, the bed of nails is a well tested tool for healing the body and releasing emotional, physical and mental blockages. It has been use by Indian yogis (yoga practitioners) thoughout time to attain perfection of body and mind. The bed of nails was, on the contrary to popular belief, not a “macho toy” for the Indian fakir to prove resistance to pain. The true purpose of the bed of nails was misunderstood by media and the general public due to the seclusion and reticence of the yogis.
The Chinese scriptures which date back more than 4000 years tell us about treatments with nails to balance body and mind. No one knows for sure when the bed of nails was first used to heal the body and raise consciousness. An approximate estimate is at least several thousand years.
The modern day
In the early 1980s beds of nails appeared in Russia, where they were used in healthcare with very good results. Patients no longer needed medication and ‘hopeless cases’ were healed. Extensive research with fantastic results on the healing effects of the bed of nails were carried out at Russian hospitals. The Bed of nails decreased inflammation, strengthened the immune system, regenerated tissues, increased metabolism and lowered stress levels. The Russian doctors were astonished that such a simple tool could have such a tremendous impact on the physical body. Even the the mind became more relaxed. Aggressiveness decreased and compassion increased. The bed of nails also proved to have a postive effect on depression.
The man behind the Shakti Mat
How did it begin?
With a past as a performance artist at the circus (acrobat and juggler) and massage therapist and Reiki healer I was once travelling and found the most beautiful and harmonious place in the Himalayas. After a long time spent in the Himalayas practicing mysticism, yoga and meditation I found that nothing is complete until all fellow human beings can experience living in deep happiness. During the past few years I have exclusively been focusing on different yoga practices and meditations.
I wandered down from the mountain and created a bed of nails with the help of the ancient Indian knowledge, Vedic science which was recorded 5-7000 years ago.
The bed of nails was named Shakti which means energy, power, creativity and compassion, which I hope it will give you all.
- May you all be happy with this wonderful tool created to reach a more complete existence.

Jaw: Clenching jaw and gritting teeth can be alleviated and as a result a new shine to the whole face appears. (use a thin cotton cloth between your skin and the Shakti Mat as the facial skin is more sensitive, do not use a towel as it will be too thick, but rather a sheet or thinner fabric).
"It is comfortable to lie on the bed of nails. I become all relaxed and warm throughout my body. Sometimes I fall asleep on the Shakti Mat."
Minna, 5 years old
"I started using my Shakti Mat in January 2008 and have been lying, sitting and standing on it literally every day since then. After having practised Kundalini yoga since 15 years I can say that my yoga practice has reached new heights since I started using my Shakti Mat in my morning practice. I use my Shakti Mat for the long rest and it has given my practice a new dimension. I feel incredibly good. The first month I also lost just over 5 kilos in weight."
Göran Boll, Institute for Medical Yoga
"The Shakti mTt has really changed my life. Since more than a year ago I have been suffering from an inflammation in the muscles around the hip. The doctor gave me three painful cortisone injections, which had an adverse effect. Now I lie on the Shakti Mat for 20 minutes a day. The ache in the hip, which previously really disturbed my sleep is diminishing and I sleep throughout the night. Another positive effect of the bed of nails is that the cramping of my legs is disappearing. My lung disease (KOL) is affected in a positive way. The phlegm in my lungs is dissolving, I start coughing after a little while on the Shakti Mat and after that my breathing becomes so much easier."
Ann-Mari Hellbom, 85 years old
Seat: Lower back problems, sciatica and legs.
“Runners knee”: Treatment for the tractus ilotibialis, on the outside of thigh.
Stomach: For increase in oxygen-uptake and reduction of stress.
(Caution! This can be very intense, but is a powerful treatment. You should be accustomed to back treatment first).
Feet: Treatment of the feet works on the reflexology zones which also has an overall effect on the whole body. Using the Shakti Mat on the soles of the feet gives stability (the feeling of having both feet on the ground increases with this treatment).
Resolves tension in calves and tendinitis which can be developed from running.
Neck: Place a pillow or rolled up towel under the Shakti Mat so that it shapes itself appropriately for the neck (to make sure that it gives support all the way to the base of the skull). This is very good for relieving tension in the shoulders and in particular for relaxing the Trapezium muscles that runs all the way up to the base of the neck. Suitable for headaches, confusion and excessive thoughts and stress.
